Haunted Golf – Ocean City, NJ

Reviewed by Mr. Tee

Played August 14, 2022 with Evan and Aaron of O-Street Mini Golf

The Ocean City Boardwalk at the Jersey Shore has just a ridiculous number of mini golf courses and we’ve visited a good chunk of them over the years in our visits. In 2022, we needed a little relief from the blistering sun after the annual O-Street Mini Golf tournament at Tee Time so we opted for a round on one of the few fully indoor courses, Haunted Golf. This one had been intriguing on our initial visit in 2021, but the proposition of air conditioning brought us into the spooky confines of Haunted Golf on our 2nd trip to Ocean City.

Rating

While the exterior of the course is fun and compelling, we had modest expectations before playing Haunted Golf. So many other courses on the Ocean City Boardwalk have immediate curb appeal with fun themes and colorful characters that draw you in. The haunted/spooky theme wasn’t as appealing from afar, but once we got inside, we could see that the attention to detail and environments throughout were well above average. We were surprised and impressed. The animatronics and lighting used across the course added an extra level to the theme, including a bit of humor. Many of the hole designs had classic obstacles and shoot-throughs, but you had options for how you wanted to engage the environments.  The 2nd hole was a darker environment with just a light over the hole but even though it was subtle, it was equally effective and worked perfectly for the theme. The whole space reminds me of classic dark rides and Disney’s Haunted Mansion.  It’s one of the only fully indoor courses at the Jersey Shore and a great option when the weather gets colder. Feels like the perfect course to visit around Halloween. Strongly recommend if you’re already at the Jersey Shore and if it’s either too hot or cold out; it’s the best option.

*The course was showing some wear and tear when we visited in 2022, but you’ll see in the O-Street Mini Golf video below that they recarpeted and fixed up the course back in 2024.

Great signage and ball displays greet you when you step inside to play a round
Simple and smart ramp through a skull for hole #1
This room utilized a lot of standard red bricked holes in a boiler room setting that had solidly creepy vibes
After a few simple holes in the light, you’re treated to a barrage of audio and visuals in the black light section of the course
Gameplay is fairly simple with classic loops and well-placed walls
A lot of this course looks fantastic in photos
Great transition area
You have to make sure to look up to see all of the thematic elements on this course
Aaron putting next to the faux fireplace
Classic loop with some angled pieces off the wall to help get you to the cup
Simple shoot-through that you can try to pass through or go around
One of the many great uses of lighting on this course
The elephant butt popping out of the wall and faux poop obstacles on the course is silly and fun
Creepy couple in bed watching on as you putt
Back to the creepy boiler room
Shoot-through was challenging to get through and didn’t ace super consistently but was fun
Looked legit spooky in this room
Have to look all around to find the little details
So much going on in every environment
Finishing up my putt next to the headless guy with his head in a glass fish bowl
Love a chance to win a free game on the final hole
