We took a trip down to the Sonoma Valley with The Pink Putter’s sister and partner, and we made an effort to play the classic Pee Wee Golf course in Guerneville. Closer to where we were staying, another course called Pee Wee Golf popped up on our radar when we were searching for additional mini golf. At first we thought it was an error, but we ventured out to see what was going on. Just right off the Russian River Road, surrounded by redwoods, was this charming little course. It was the 4th of July, and it was not open, but we were able to take in the course from behind the fence. It is a classic, cute course with direct, obvious references to classic and modern cartoons, and a hand-painted feel throughout, including numerous course signs. Upon further research, we found out that this course is connected to the Guernville location and was opened in 1948. According to Roadside America, “The property was donated to the Rio Nido Homeowners in the 1970s. It continues to be volunteer-run throughout the summer season on Friday and Saturday nights. The course is still original, and there is a vintage sign with the sign maker’s date of 1948, and a snack shop with ice cream, candy, popcorn, soda, and free pinball, air hockey, and foosball”.

Based on Facebook posts, it appears the course is still functioning, and if we’re ever back in the area, I’d be curious to see how it plays. It had rained right before our visit, but it appeared well-aged and likely plays a little funky, but these super old courses are always such a treat to check out. If you’ve played it, let us know!
