Mayday Golf (Mayday Mountain) – North Myrtle Beach, SC

Played October 8, 2021

Reviewed by Mr. Tee. Special guests Aaron & Joey from O-Street & Highlighter

My previous Drive By review of Mayday came in 2019 when I visited the facilities on my way out of town on my first trip to Myrtle Beach. At that time, I only took photos and didn’t get an opportunity to play the course due to time constraints. I knew I would return again to Myrtle Beach in the future and was hoping to play this course with The Pink Putter as it was high on our list to play after seeing photos online. Along with a crew of mini golf loving friends and American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA) members, we returned to Myrtle Beach for the 2021 Masters and practiced our tails off daily to prep for the high competitive 12 round tournament. While some players would opt to rest at night, our putting-obsessed clan opted to peruse the many options available for miniature golf across Myrtle Beach. On the evening before the start of play, I ventured over to Mayday with Joey Daps & Aaron Kaminski of O-Street as well as one of the top putters in Connecticut, Mark “Highlighter” Novicki. We got to the course just in time before they closed and had nearly the whole facility to ourselves to explore the Mayday Mountain side of the course.

Rating

One of three different Professor Hacker’s properties all located in North Myrtle Beach. This is one of the many immersive courses across the town and Mayday is hard to miss when you drive by. The massive helicopter and plane are hard to miss and the safari animals are nice add-ons to the environment. The whole course has an Indiana Jones tropical adventure vibe with lush greenery, waterways, and mountains. The course itself is pretty straight forward green turf and traditional red bricks for the walls. The hole markers look very similar to the Pineapple course at Aloha North. The cups all had plastic grates to allow for draining and were quite similar to almost many other courses across town. The design of the holes is solid but the gameplay rarely incorporates the theme of the course. We all had a blast playing this course and for the environment alone, it’s one of many strong courses to consider playing in Myrtle Beach when you visit the area but especially if you’re in North Myrtle Beach.
