Matterhorn Mini Golf – Canton, CT

Matterhorn Mini Golf had been on our bucket list for many years. We first learned about this course as we watched the documentation of its conception and construction (circa 2015) on the mini golf documentary Through the Windmill that we were also a part of. In June of 2022, we headed back east to Connecticut to play in the Odetah Mini Golf Classic Tournament, and made Matterhorn our first stop of the trip (it just so happened to also be Mr. Tee’s birthday)!

Coming up on September 17, 2022 is the 6th Matterhorn International Pro-Am with a $900 cash purse. This tournament is part of the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA). If you live in the Connecticut area, we highly recommend you play in this one!

Rating

There is no small detail that gets overlooked in this super Swiss-inspired mini golf course. From the skis lining the fence along the parking lot, the Swiss chalet clubhouse, the European-style toilets in the restrooms, the Swiss Swirl ice cream, the Swiss cheese door wedges, and the theming of all 18 holes plus a practice putting green (or should we say red and white), course owner Autumn Sutherland has created the ultimate homage to Switzerland through a mini golf course. Each hole is not only immaculately themed but also well designed in terms of variety and putting challenge. Larger thematic elements such as apples, goats, cows, Toblerone chocolate, mountain dogs, an oversized wedge of Swiss cheese, and the Matterhorn itself are cleverly integrated directly into the gameplay, culminating in a truly immersive round of mini golf.
