Swing Time Mini Golf – Germantown, WI

Played on August 27, 2021

This course came on my radar after playing in a virtual putting league on the Putt18 mat with one of the family members who own the course, Matt Roadhouse. I had seen various pictures over the years. On my trip to the northern suburbs of Chicago for the 2021 M.C. Mini Masters, I opted to travel slightly out of my way through the surrounding Milwaukee area to make a quick stop to play Swing Time.

Rating

The photos and positive accolades I’d seen for the course from afar compelled me to go out of my way to visit. Seeing it and playing it in person sold me on this course as being one of the best courses in the Midwest and Wisconsin. While there is no overriding theme, the inclusion of mini golf staples like waterfalls and a lighthouse add to the fun putting journey the course provides. The elements that make this a great mini golf course are subtle. It’s clear a lot of thought went into the hole designs. The size of the holes, the undulations in the turf, and the slopes towards the cup were all unique. Many courses tend to repeat the design of a hole whereas I felt like each hole had a distinct personality. The water feature and pathway up and down provide an opportunity for you to be surprised by holes that aren’t fully visible until you approach them. The only negative about this is that the stairs and steepness of several holes make a good portion of this course not fully accessible to a wheelchair. This is one of the few minor complaints in what is an otherwise challenge and fun course.

There it is, Swing Time, with a beautiful sky behind it
This cute little clubhouse and sign kick off the experience
Hole #1 is fairly straightforward but a solid challenge for the first hole
Love that this hole feels like it’s out in the middle of the water
Always something nice about putting under a waterfall and those poles provide a good obstacle
Cup on the hill offers a path to an ace via the pipe
Tricky little uphill putt
One of the longer holes I’ve ever played
Feels good to get a hole-in-one on a hole named Sassy Chipmunk
A series of sets of humps can be played or if you’re a skilled putter, head right through the middle
View from above near the lighthouse
3 pipes lead down from Hole #13
and the correct pipe gives you a shot at an ace
Wavvy!
The Roadhouse family owns the course
Tricky downhill putt with multiple switchbacks that make it fun to watch the ball’s path
Hole #18 has lots of good undulations
Bonus 19th hole to win a free game
I’m a fan and I’ll definitely be back to Swing Time
