Mini Golf in Minnesota in 2021: Our 10 Favorite Traditional Courses

18 holes covered in turf (or carpet) with castles, pirates, windmills, lighthouses, water hazards, rocks, jumps, bumps, goats, bears, spinning objects, oversized characters, and so much more can be regularly found on mini golf courses across the world as well as in Minnesota. We went through and pulled out a list of places from across our home state (and a few right over the border in neighboring Wisconsin) that best incorporate all of these fun mini golf themes that we love. We’ve linked to our reviews of these courses. This list is in alphabetical order and not a ranking. We hope you’ll find a way to get out and enjoy them all like we did!

Classic mid-century mini golf replete with spinning obstacles, vintage-styled features, and fun putting

2. Lilli Putt (Coon Rapids) – Metro / Outdoors

Consistently challenging course with a couple of castles. Mr. Tee has played this course for over 30 years.

3. Pirate’s Cove (Brainerd) – Outdoors(x2) / Outstate

Pirate-themed national chain franchisee Up North. Two courses. Big pirate ship and waterfalls.

4. Putt N Pets (Grand Marais) – Outdoors / Outstate 

Only an hour from the Canadian border is a course where you can feed goats and putt a round of 18

5. Riverside Amusement (Lacrosse, WI) – Outdoors / Outstate 

Taking the Putt-Putt skill styled putting up a notch. Sleek white metal borders surround a fun lil course just across the Minnesota border near Winona.

6. Rock Of Ages (Bloomington/Mall of America) – Indoors / Twin Cities Metro

Interactive blacklight mini golf tour through the history of pop music in a massive mall. Cheesy and fun.

7. Summerland Mini Golf (St. Cloud) – Outdoors (x2) / Outstate

A duo of well-maintained and fun courses 1 hour west of the Twin Cities. Lakes and Bears!

8. Walsh Golf Center (Lacrosse, WI) – Outdoors / Outstate

1970s vintage “executive course” with spinning obstacles & colorful features right across the WI border.

9. Whistling Wolf (Crosslake) – Outdoors / Outstate 

Perfect execution on North Woods theme with creative design and play.

10. Wildwedge Golf & RV Park (Pequot Lakes) – Outdoors / Outstate

Fun, charming, and varied 18 holes of play that is a truly hidden gem worth seeking out.
