Back in June of 2o22, Mr. Tee and I took a trip to Connecticut to revisit some of my childhood memories as well as to compete in the 2022 OMG (Odetah Mini Golf Classic Tournament). This annual tournament is hosted by Gary Shiff of The Squeaky Bagel and takes place at the picturesque Knolls & Holes Miniature Golf Course at the Odetah Camping Resort. For a few days before the tournament, we explore the New Haven area and finally had a chance to play Safari Golf, one that had been on our list for quite some time because of a vintage t-shirt I had ordered from there on Etsy years prior.
Rating
Safari golf is an 18-hole course dotted with a plethora of fiberglass wildlife and set on a lush roadside hill. The dense foliage, extreme changes in terrain and central waterway with waterfalls give this course a surprisingly tropical setting for being located in the suburbs of Connecticut. The course offers a wide variety of gameplay with bridges, waterfalls, rocks, and sloped terrains with the stand out being the large downhill hole in the middle of the course. Once you are at the top of the course, you are greeted with scenic views of the neighboring hillside. This course is on the older side, so does show a bit of wear and tear from age, but overall this is a classic place to play that’s just off the beaten path if you’re in the New Haven area.
