Strikers Bar (Outdoor Mini Golf Course) – Superior, WI

Long and dark winters make local drinking establishments a second home to many in small cities in the Upper Midwest. Just over the bridge and border from Duluth in Superior is dive bar heaven. One of those watering holes popped up on my radar when searching around for mini golf in that neck of the woods. I found an article on Perfect Duluth Day that mentioned this course in addition to the mediocre Spirit Mountain mini golf course that is being considered to be replaced in a larger overhaul of a floundering business model. A friend sent a few photos through the fence but we figured that if we were going to be up in the area, we might as well stop on by.

Rating

This course has definitely seen better days. The wood rails are rotting and the turf is worn and torn. The hole designs are traditional featuring a volcano hole, doglegs, bumps/slopes, and narrow shoot-throughs. But this course is also free to the patrons of the bar. A fresh layer of turf alone could make this course 100 times better but if you additionally replaced a few of the rotting wooden rails, you’d have a solid course that I’d play over drinks with friends. All of the people we talked to at the bar were incredibly warm and friendly. The back party room had a good vibe and seemed like a gathering place for people in the community.  I hope this place gets fixed up either because I get the feeling this might have been a fun little 9 holes at some point.

We popped by in the mid afternoon after the early shift and before the late shift
Narrow paths to the cup
Do like the picnic table in the middle of the course
Solid slopes
But as you can see, it all needs a lot of work
Not well maintained including significant debris
Beautiful sky and day to putt though
Here’s lookin at you
Not much more to say. The turf on the volcano hole is tragic.

Party room!
Putters for patrons
Love a good sign and the words “free mini golf”
