Visited January 6, 2021
We’ve played and visited quite a few mini golf courses that were temporary projects created by museums. On our trip down to Texas earlier this year, we had our first visit to a permanent museum course. To top that, we’ve never seen a military-themed course or miniature golf that addresses World War II. This small business and passion project is the brain-child of Brian McKinney, a Texas-based historian. As stated on their website:
“We intend to blend the history with the Mini-Golf experience, each hole will be dedicated to a living or fallen veteran of WW2, Korean War or Vietnam. Although mostly focused around aviation, veterans from all branches of the military will be included.”
When we stopped by to visit, the course was still under construction. Brian gave us a behind-the-scenes tour of the course as it was progressing. Some of the holes were complete, others had crushed rock over their footprint and many hadn’t even been started. We got to test play a few and use our imaginations to think about how everything would be finished.
Well, imagine no more, the course opens this weekend! Brian sent us some images from the course as it has been completed. So, enjoy this visual timeline of the construction of a giant mini golf course. Expect the holes to have high pars and this course will definitely provide a serious putting challenge.
