The 2020 pandemic limited our ability to travel far and wide during the summer of 2020 so we took the opportunity to take in mini golf courses across greater Minnesota. During a “vacation” week at work, I hit the road and drove slightly over the border into Lacrosse, Wisconsin and then popped by Rochester, Minnesota on the way back home.
Rating
Par – In this city known for the internationally renowned Mayo Clinic, Skyline Raceway appears to be the only option for playing miniature golf in Rochester, Minnesota. While it is a shorter 9-hole course, the length and challenge of each hole make this a worthy destination stop while in the area. The use of rocks as obstacles matches well with the overall pastoral and peaceful setting. The volcano hole #7 and a few other spots could use repairs and/or new turf. On this traditional red-bricked and green astroturfed course, you won’t find any kitsch or kookiness but instead, you’ll discover a subtle and smartly designed little course.
Pros
Long and cleverly designed holes
Excellent use of narrow bridges and organic rock obstacles
Solid putting challenge
Cons
Turf was in bad shape or needed to be replaced on a few holes
