Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf (Lost Boys Course) – Myrtle Beach, SC

Played October 11, 2019 with O Street (Rudy & Aaron) and Mark “Highlighter” Novicki

Reviewed by Mr. Tee

Playing with fellow passionate and talented mini golfers is always a treat but the bulk of my trip to Myrtle Beach in October 2019 found me at the bottom of the pack for putting pride. The O-Street crew, The Putting Penguin duo, and Randy Rice are formidable foes and I love being challenged. But winning is fun too! After a few rounds of last place finishes with these folks who had been playing in the Masters all day in the hot sun, our exhausted crew landed at Captain Hooks. The huge lagoon, massive skull with smoke pouring out, and cartoonish scenes must have been what I needed because I not only won the round but landed 7 hole-in-one putts. Nearly all of our other competitive rounds in Myrtle Beach were captured on video by O-Street but we all wanted to just play without the pressure of the camera. While I wish I could watch to see what I did to play so well, I can still conjure up the joyful feeling of my surreal scoring in this magical space.

Rating

Hole-in-One – In addition to this course being home to one of the best rounds of mini golf I’ve ever played, it truly stands out in the crowded miniature golf landscape of Myrtle Beach. The palm trees and pirate ships are not uncommon but the animatronic vignettes throughout the course, including in the caves, give it an extra level of adventure. The lighting at night adds another layer of specialness. I’ve played countless pirate-themed courses but this is the first one that felt truly special. I’m most certainly returning to this course next time I’m through Myrtle Beach.

Not all my photos of our group turned out well but love how the guys look set in front of the palm trees at night
Two full 18-hole courses following the Peter Pan narrative
This sprawling waterway nicely separates the course from the rest of the world.
Rudy of O-Street worked on finding the right shot
Mark “Highlighter” with the follow-through
The combo of the waterfalls, roadside sign, and smoking skull are hard to resist when driving by
On and around the pirate ship you could find all sorts of Peter Pan scenes playing out with animatronic characters
Aaron of O-Street thinking about how he wants to play a well placed jump over the water.
Didn’t capture enough of these fun extra character touches throughout the course
And in the end, the putting was both fun and challenging (in a good way)
The greens and surrounding walls were in excellent shape
A few of the well placed and themed elements on the course
A sense of the scale from the lower half of the course

No video footage of my 7 hole-in-ones in the round I played
