Cool Crest Mini Golf Replayed – Independence, MO

Played on April 27, 2019

Back in January 2018, we were in Kansas City consulting on Art Course for the Nelson-Atkins. During our down time, we were able to do a drive-by review at Cool Crest, however it was so cold that our camera battery died and we didn’t get to play a full game. Upon returning to Kansas City in April 2019 to wrap up our work on Art Course, we finally got to enjoy a few rounds in the spring weather, accompanied by our friends Will and Katie.

This large Family Fun Center complex has four full mini golf courses, an indoor arcade and a small snack bar/dining area. On our drive-by back in 2018, we photographed the Camelot Course. On this particular trip, we played the King’s Course and the Knight’s Course.

Rating

Birdie – With four courses, large putting greens, kitschy obstacles and a good variety of unique and challenging game play, Cool Crest clearly had its heyday. While this mini golf complex is still a jewel, its broken obstacles, rotting wood and worn turf definitely reveals its age. There are some fun easter eggs, like the small figurines hidden inside the Eiffel Tower. And there are a lot of holes that as soon as you get it into a certain obstacle, cup or opening, it counts as an automatic hole-in-one. Cool Crest could certainly use a little extra TLC, however it still ranks high on our list as a putting destination and is one of the best options in the area.
