Tiki Town Adventure Golf – San Diego, CA

Played on November 9, 2018

After a week of intense drawing, competition and camaraderie at the 27th annual ISCA Convention, I thought it’d be fun to organize a second mini golf outing for the week (check out the first!). A group of twelve of us met up on Friday morning, the last day of the Con and headed to Belmont Park at Mission Beach to play Tiki Town Adventure Golf. This time the crew included Erik Roadfeldt, Don Pinsent, Erin Goedtel, Thomas Counts, Chuck Bennis, Katie Green and her husband, A.J. Mathenia, Brian Denisiuk, Brian Smales and Casey Christenson. We broke into three teams of four for some friendly competition and Casey ended up winning the whole thing with a low score of 40.

Birdie – Just like its name, Tiki Town had a thorough tiki theme complete with palm trees, thatched roofs, a giant pineapple windmill, tiki gods, a plane crash, a parrot, a giant volcano and more. This course was unique in that it was both indoor and outdoor, with holes and greenways seamlessly weaving in and out between giant wall openings. This created a pleasant, open-air feel that provided the right mix of sunshine and shade. While a lot of the gameplay relied on the classics like angles and slopes, there were some fun and challenging holes that involved shipping crates, a windmill, pipe play and a final skeeball style hole. The bonus of it all was that at the end, there was a Dole Whip stand where we all indulged in a refreshing treat. Tiki Town is a solid course and definitely worth the trip. It was fun as a tourist to visit Belmont Park, take a walk to the beach and end the afternoon with some delicious Mexican food.
