A History of Spring Lake Park Amusement / Sir Goony Golf – Part 3: New Name

August 24, 2018

by Tom Loftus (aka Mr. Tee)

Only two years after becoming a Sir Goony Golf franchise, the owners of the Spring Lake Park location decided to switch things up. The original owners were operating under the entity “Four Sons Amusement” but the progeny of Mort Bloom and Hy Itman opted to rebrand the business as Spring Lake Park Amusement Center.

The Grand, Grand Opening under the new name was set for June 14, 1980.  Waterslides with two simple paths to the pool were added as well as new attractions including battery cars, water wars, arcade games and “Hoops USA”. Promotion for the event included a dinosaur hunt, jugglers, clowns, and coloring books. Marketing of the new name continued later into the Summer with an 80s look-a-like contest. The contest will be the topic of Part 4 of this series but for now, you can soak in the visuals of the grand opening and expansion of entertainment to complement the two mini golf courses.
