Upton Hill Regional Mini Golf (Ocean Dunes) – Arlington, VA

A Midsummer 2017 jaunt out east to Baltimore for the Pink Putter’s art project landed me with free time to travel the coast. A bucket list visit to the infamous steps of ground zero for Dischord Records in Washington, D.C. was on the docket so it seemed fitting to find out what the nation’s capital has to offer for mini golf. After a little research with help from my buddy Brian of Lovitt Records, I came across a few courses not far from the punk rock mecca.

Rating

Par – Despite several chipped obstacles, split seams, and wear on the turf, this is a solid mini golf adventure just over the D.C. border in Virginia. The way you move in, around, and above the water and putting spaces makes for an immersive experience. The creative variation of types of holes in addition to a few unique designs set this up to be an above average course but the wear and tear add up to bring these 18 holes back down to earth. The passage of time or the nearby variety of water sources have deteriorated the course in a few significant places. Still, as I gaze back on photos, I am tempted to move it up a spot to a birdie.
