A Couple of Putts and Lilli Putt present…
The 2nd Annual Miniest Mini Golf Open
September 21-26th, 2021
Year 2 of The Miniest Mini Golf Open is in the books and we’re all smiles. The increase in the number of days for qualifying and the number of people being included in the championship round was intended to make the tournament even more inviting and fun. On both fronts, we felt it was a smashing success. We saw significantly more people play throughout the week and turn out for the championship round on Sunday, September 26th, 2021. The best of the qualifying rounds gave us a number of scores in the lower 50s but Jeff Lenz came with a 50 to set the bar. Typically, you’d expect to see worse scores in a single championship round when the pressure is on but the opposite happened this year. Shawn Brown won the tournament easily with an updated course record of 46. This is an astonishing 20 under par and the first time most of us saw someone putt in 40s at Lilli Putt. Tom (aka Mr. Tee) came in 2nd place again with a 52 which is now the next best championship round in our tournament and tied his all-time personal best. Michael Hackbarth was up from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and matched last year’s first-place score of 56 using a house putter to take home 3rd place. We saw a broader and newer group of players both young and old compete for the championship. We’ll add a few videos here soon and hoping to announce the dates for the tournament for 2022 very soon. Stay tuned and keep on putting!

Qualifying Rounds
Tuesday-Saturday, September 21-25th: top 10 scores (with a max of 20 competitors accounting for tying top 10 qualifying rounds) will be notified after 6pm on Saturday night and move on to the Championship Round on Sunday.
Championship Round
Sunday, September 26th at 9 am: top qualifiers will play a single final round to determine winners. A first-place/champion tie will be broken by a hole 18 sudden death putt off. All other ties will be determined by the better qualifying round score. If there is an additional tie after bringing in the qualifying round score, prizes at those levels will be split 50/50.
Rules of the Game
- No intentional chip shots to jump walls.
- If the ball goes off course into the water or out of bounds, the ball will be placed at either the last place it exited the course or the beginning of the hole with a one-stroke penalty added.
- If the ball goes into the rock traps, you must either play the ball where it lays or take a stroke penalty to place the ball 6″ from the point of entry into the rock trap.
- If the ball bounces back and past the starting yellow putt off area, the ball can be reset on the putting area by the competitor without a penalty stroke
- For all tournament rounds, there is no stroke limit. You count your putts till you make it into the cup.
- The ball can be moved 6″ (or one putter head length) away from any obstacle or wall for relief as long as it is not in the rocks or water.
Rules of the Tournament
- All holes will be played with each person completing the hole before others in their group play.
- The ball can only advance to the hole through the use of the putter.
- If the math on your scorecard is not correct, a +1 stroke penalty is added to your score for the round. During the championship round, any groups with scorecards that don’t match when turned in will result in a stroke penalty for each member of the group
- All rounds must be completed between the course open on Tuesday, September 21st, and 6 pm on Saturday, September 25th to be valid and eligible for the championship on Sunday, September 26th.
- Valid scorecards must be turned into the clubhouse with the date and time played immediately after finishing.
- Competitors must include a contact phone number and email where we can reach you if you make it into the top 10 to compete again on Sunday, Sept. 26.
- Up to 20 competitors with the lowest scores at or below Par (66) will compete for the championship on Sunday, September 26th. If there is a tie for the 10 best scores, all of those competitors will compete for the championship as long as there are less than 20 competitors.
- To determine who makes the cut for the championship if more than 20 competitors have the top 10 scores during qualifying, the best scores and earliest posted times of those scores will determine the cut-off point.
- A Couple of Putts (Tom & Robin) will be contacting the top 20 scorers on Saturday, September 25th around 6 pm to confirm their availability to play for the championship on Sunday, September 26th. You must confirm you will be able to return for the championship round on Sunday, September 26th by 9 pm on 9/25/21.
- The championship round will start promptly at 9 am on Sunday, September 26th with the highest of the top 10 scores starting in the first group of 4. The best scorers during qualifying will make up the last group of putters.
- All competitors in the championship round must score their round as well as the other competitors in their group. If scores on all scorecards in the group don’t match when turned in, each competitor in that group will receive a stroke penalty.
- In the case of a tie for 1st place on 9/26/21, those competitors who tie will play in sudden death on hole 18 until one of the players gets a hole-in-one. Each competitor will get a chance to putt once in each round of the sudden death heads-up match.
- All other ties will be determined by the better qualifying round score.
- If there is an additional tie after bringing in the qualifying round score, prizes at those levels will be split 50/50.
- All scores will be posted at acoupleofputts.com/open within a week of the tournament
- All other applicable normal course rules apply.
- Be cool to each other. Have fun.
