During the pandemic, I created a resource for finding mini golf across the state of Minnesota where we live. One of the courses I came across was Gator Greens, a little 9-hole course. From afar, it looked to be a fun, quaint course with a theme in outstate Minnesota. A mini project in Decorah, Iowa took us both through parts of the state of Minnesota we had never been to and also helped us check Gator Greens off the list of courses in Minnesota we had not played.
Rating

We are always keen to play off the beaten path courses, especially ones that have a homemade vibe and personal touches. The little gator theming throughout the course came in the way of random sculptures and signage. All of that we liked. The layout of the course was challenging and helped make the 9-hole course play longer than one would expect, but unfortunately, a big part of the reason it took us a long time to play was due to the rough conditions of the greens. Challenging volcano holes and cups located near precarious edges are made even more difficult when you have gouges in the carpets and worn-down greens. I truly believe this would be a fun little course with new turf and a little bit of TLC. I get that the course is located in a small town that probably doesn’t get a ton of foot traffic, but I think in better condition, this course could be a nice community asset. Just need a little bit of work.
