In 2018, we got an email from Dana Snell in Fort Collins, Colorado regarding our work as mini golf designers. We chatted with Dana once or twice and stayed in touch as he figured out the best option for him in building a new course. As the years past, we exchanged messages about augmented reality and potentially hosting a tournament in the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA). I knew that a trip to Fort Collins would be on the docket on my next trip to the Denver area to see friends. I ended up traveling to Colorado earlier this year in April for the celebration of the life of a friend and had some extra time on my trip to play new courses. I opted to make the jaunt up to Fort Collins immediately after landing in town to check out the course and ended up watching the end of Game 1 of the Timberwolves win over the Sun in the first round of the playoffs.
Rating
We’ve played several courses built by Cost of Wisconsin. The best versions of those courses come from the people who add their flare or personality to those solid structures. It was clear from playing the course that Dana wanted to try out a few unique concepts in the layout of this course. First, he started with a single outdoor hole on their patio. It has nice curb appeal and it draws you in. It’s followed by a plinko hole, a challenging two-tiered hole, and a triple loop, and finishes off with a chance to wildly modify your score with a challenging shot. All of these take fairly simple and short hole designs and bring it up a level in 9 holes. I was most impressed with how they managed to fit 9 holes in their space while maintaining room for a full bar, darts, and an arcade. My only complaint is that the other half of the course I have not alluded to was just fine. I would love to see a full 18-hole course utilizing the creativity shown on the best holes and would highly recommend this course/bar if you’re in Fort Collins.
