After 2 days of competition at the CityGolf Tour tournament at the nearby Sundbyberg BGK and a lap around Solna’s eternit course, our crew of myself, Seve Kukielka (UK), Andrew Edmonds (UK/Czechia) and Vojta Mikšovský (Czechia) were pretty exhausted. On top of it, the weather was turning sour and rain was heading our way. Due to this and our desire to sit down for a final group meal, we opted to play a round the challenging felt course. The four of us had a limited amount of minigolf balls on hand as well which would have made attempting to play the felt course even more difficult. We had played a round on the felt course at Sundbyberg with Ricard Lockner a short time earlier with a few locals lending us a few minigolf balls and even then we struggled to complete some of the lanes. If you don’t regularly play the Swedish felt style courses on the pro setup of the lanes, you can find yourself getting frustrated quickly. Felt courses require precision putts to get the ball through narrow passages and up steep slopes. In competitive play on these courses, if you don’t advance the ball past the obstacles, you must return to the tee box each time. With all of these elements taken into consideration, our group opted not to play but I opted to document and walk through the whole course. Unlike the older classic felt course I played earlier in the trip in Uppsala, these holes (called lanes) had aluminum structures and rails. It’s a more modern look and style that is likely cheaper to build and maintain. At some point, I’d like to get back to this course and play with the minigolf balls I’ve acquired since traveling to Sweden. For now, enjoy the photos!
