Defunct: Adventure Falls Mini Golf – Surfside Beach, SC

Visited October 9, 2022, and then again October 8, 2023

Words by Mr. Tee

In my first venture south of the Myrtle Beach airport after the finish of the 2022 Masters, I bumped into a familiar-looking course, Adventure Falls. Given I had a little spare time before heading to catch my flight home, I had to decide whether I would play several courses or just quickly observe the putting options across Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, and surrounding areas. Adventure Falls was the most tempting as it has an old-school feel and nearly identical look to the North Myrtle Beach course, Rainbow Falls. Both courses have a larger-than-life shark, pink taj mahal looking castle, octopus, and roadside signage that were built by the same company and almost certainly designed by James “Poddy” Bryant. I popped up on the property to snap a few photos and to consider playing it. I remember immediately noticing that the turf was pretty ripped up in places and then after seeing the pricetag for a round, I opted to just document this time around in hopes that maybe the owners would do some repairs in the future to make the course more compelling to play. Sadly, this course that was built in 1989 was set to be demolished 34 years after its opening in 2023. Based on several Facebook posts, it seems that the course was not getting enough traffic and the owners were frustrated with how the customers were treating the course which makes sense given the condition of the course.

Below you’ll find my photos of the course in 2022 and then the aftermath of the demolition in 2023.

Rounds when they closed would be $8.90 to reference the year they opened to the public, 1989. The prices were $12 for adults and $9 for children when I visited in October 2022 which were on the higher end of the price range at that time for Myrtle Beach.
