Magic Carpet was a miniature golf course and arcade complex located near Speedway and Wilmot in Tucson, AZ. It opened in 1970 and sadly closed in 2008. It had a lot of the same statues as Goofy Golf in Panama City Beach, FL, including the monkey, the dinosaur, the Easter Island head, and the Sphinx, as well as some giant flowers. The statues were designed by Goofy Golf’s Lee Koplin and built by Michael Kautza and his brother, Andy. There are some great photos of what the course once was over at roadarch.com

In 2011, Magic Carpet was bulldozed, however, to our delight we learned that some of its statues were preserved and moved to locations across Tucson. Check out this great news piece from Absolutely Arizona:

So, we went on a scavenger hunt to find as many as we could during our quick visit. You can even find all of there locations here on Google Maps if you want to do a tour of your own!

Stop 1- the original sign, located on West Drachman Street, just north of Pima Community College
Stop 2, the Monkey, located in the yard of a private home at 727 N. 9th Ave.
Stop 3 – the Easter Island head, now located at The Hut Tucson, 305 North 4th Ave.
Stop 4 – Valley of the Moon on 2544 East Allen Road which is home to multiple statues including the Stump pictured here
The Pygmy Hut, also at Valley of the Moon
