Goofy Golf – Ocean City, NJ

Played August 15, 2021

Reviewed by Mr. Tee

Our visit to Ocean City on Jersey Shore in 2021 for the O-Street $1000 Tournament at Tee Time gave us some extra time to play with putting pals from the east coast of the US. We had already played Seaport Village with a big crew. Most of the folks needed to hit the road to head back home but after playing three other courses called Goofy Golf earlier in the summer, we couldn’t skip out on another similarly named course. Highlighter and Evan of O-Street were game to join us for a round on this wild and colorful-looking course just a couple hundred feet from the two other courses we had just played.

Rating

Our buddy Evan had played this course growing up on the Jersey Shore so we had a seasoned guide to one of the wackiest-looking courses we’ve seen. We had seen photos online and were eager to play this course not only because of the name but from afar, it looks like a fun, kitschy and colorful course. Our friends from O-Street had warned us that many of the holes played a little funky but from the boardwalk, all we could see were a wild collection of fiberglass characters and a rainbow-colored environment. Once inside, it felt like a psychedelic trip. A monkey with a fishing rod on a jet ski. Santa in pastels. A hippo eating a hoagie. Then add in some likely unlicensed characters and environments from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Minions, Dr. Seuss, and the NHL It’s over the top and completely wild. After we started playing, we understood why the O-Street folks weren’t as excited about playing. Many of the holes appeared to have paths carved out that if you got the ball in the right channel or pipe, you would be rewarded with a hole-in-one.  This was incredibly common in the style of courses across the Jersey Shore. Not only did many of the same shots play inconsistently, but in most cases, the ball would take wildly different paths out of the same channels. Add in worn-down carpets and metal-rimmed cups and it made for sometimes frustrating play. Despite this, the surreal environments and unreal cheap price of $5 make this an experience to try out when you’re in Ocean City.
