Monster Mini Golf – Round Rock, TX

Played February 26, 2022 & April 19, 2022

Feels fitting to finally review this course the week of South by Southwest (SXSW). I found myself in the wonderful city of Austin last February on a rainy day and was provided with an excellent excuse to explore the indoor options in the area. After playing the lackluster black light course at Main Event, I headed further north to visit the local Monster Mini Golf course.

Rating

I have yet to play a Monster Mini Golf course which has been a letdown. This was the 5th of the franchise that I had played to date. The consistency of these monster-themed black light mini golf courses is impressive especially given the varied quality of other family-friendly franchised mini golf courses in the US. In line with the other Monster Mini Golf franchises, this course had local nods to popular culture and historical figures from the Austin area made out to be cartoon characters. Elijah Wood, The Undertaker, Sandra Bullock, Willie Nelson, Steven F. Austin, and others all adorn the walls surrounding the exterior of the course. I’ve seen identical versions of the animatronic characters and obstacles on other courses in the chain but I still find them to be well-made and utilized throughout the course. It’s probably why I revisited this course on a later visit to the area with Pat of The Putting Penguin and Highlighter in April. You can find Pat’s review of the course on the Putting Penguin. If you’re looking for a consistently good indoor mini golf experience, you can’t go wrong with Monster Mini Golf.
