Defunct: Snake River Mini Golf – Myrtle Beach, SC

Words by Mr. Tee

During my trip to the 2022 Mini Golf Masters In Myrtle Beach, I was determined to play a few courses I had not had enough time to play during visits in 2019 and 2021 as well as visit as many spots as possible to map out where I could play in the future. Pre-pandemic, I had made a list of all of the courses that I could find information online for the Myrtle Beach area but never ventured south of the airport as the information on all of those courses was minimal and from photos, I found online, none of the spots stood out as being a “must play” course.

With five hours to spare before my flight on a Sunday after the Masters finished, I had time on my own to sneak in 8 rounds. I played nearly every 18-hole course I had on my list near the airport and figured I’d venture to uncharted territory to wrap up my trip. To my surprise, most of the courses south of the airport were still actively in operation but based on everything I could find online, I was pretty certain Snake River Golf was closed. When I pulled up to the sign, it was clear that Snake River had not operated for awhile. Online research put the close of the course somewhere in 2017 or 2018. I didn’t venture into the property very far because something about a defunct course called Snake River feels ominous. As you’ll see below, I found a full walkthrough video of the course in its current condition and additionally located a few photos others shared of the course when it was operational. As far as I can tell from old photos, this course was quite similar to the near 50 mini golf courses across town with a snake / adventure theme. If you have any photos from the course in its heyday, don’t hesitate to send them to me to add to this drive-by
