While out at the shore in August 2021, we had the chance to play The Sand Trap with one of my best friends, Maggie, and her two boys, Quincy and Jonah. It was definitely fun playing with the boys and getting a chance to see the course through the perspective of younger players.
Rating
The Sand Trap is a quintessential shore course – it’s small (taking up less than a square block of real estate), it’s got a main club house, a light house, a gazebo, water features scattered throughout and many of the classic game play elements including a wishing well and a windmill as well as contoured greens. Some of the turf was a bit worn and in need of replacing while other greens appeared to be farilly new. The Sand Trap is one of the more frustrating/challenging courses we found on Long Beach Island, where taking the risk was not a guaranteed reward.
Pros
Early bird hours make it easy to play before it gets busy
Convenient location on middle of the island
Classic game play elements
Eye-catching lighthouse and sign
Fun bonus 19th hole
Cons
Some turf in need of repair
Frustrating/challenging
Game play not as fun as other nearby courses
