Jurassic Golf – Myrtle Beach, SC

Reviewed by Mr. Tee

Played October 11, 2019 with O-Street Mini Golf (Rudy & Aaron) and Mark “Highlighter” Novicki

This was the first round of mini golf after the 2nd day of competition at the 2019 Masters. Highlighter, Aaron & Rudy and I traveled south down the King’s highway from Aloha Mini Golf about 20 minutes and passed a new course every 2 minutes of the drive. It was a great introduction to the many quality joints on the south side of downtown but we were in search of dinosaurs and putting. Our journey ended near the Myrtle Beach Airport at Jurassic Golf.

Rating

Dinosaurs on courses ended up being surprisingly easy to find in Myrtle Beach, but I believe this was the only course that had full-on animatronics for their prehistorical characters. The full scaled T-Rex at the midway point of the course was clearly inspired by the Jurassic Park film franchise and it was one of many set pieces on the course meant to connect the dots with the ill fated fictional dinosaur park. It was a glorious spectacle and had me waiting in anticipation for the moment it disrupted putters out on the course. The corny cut-out photo ops and other little flourishes throughout made for an overall charming environment. Coming from the north, we don’t see palm trees nearly as much as we would like and they felt at home in the overall course next to all the water features. We had a few fussy cups that caused an unusual amount of balls bouncing out but otherwise, the course played well. Our group had an above-par experience and this is yet another solid course worth checking out if you’re in the Myrtle Beach area.

Surprisingly, A-aron is ok with this 2nd putt location. Gotta be careful though, balls are prone to bouncing out of the cups on this course.
