Wildwedge Mini Golf & RV Park – Pequot Lakes, MN

Played on July 10, 2020

Reviewed by the Pink Putter

This past spring we received an e-mail from Jill Beyer, the owner of Wildwedge Golf & RV Park, inviting us up to play their mini golf course. This helped prompt us to plan a short trip up to the Brainerd area of Minnesota to play a handful of courses that we’ve never been to. There were a lot of fun courses, but Wildwedge definitely stood out. Located just off the main route 371, this campground and RV park has a golf course, a giant maze, a small area of lumberjack shows, a cute clubhouse and of course, the 18-hole mini golf course.

Jill gave us a bit of backstory. Many years ago, she and her family took trips to Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, SC to play and research mini golf. They played over 4000 holes and took photos of their favorites. They came back to Minnesota, laid out all of their photos and chose the very best. They used these as the basis to make their own custom course, nestled away on their campground in northern MN.

Rating

The hole designs on this course are definitely unique to MN and offer a fun variety of skill challenges and luck shots. There are jumps, water hazards, pipe play, skee ball, tiered greens, hills and valleys to overcome. The greens are surrounded by lots of trees, natural plant life and water features. The course is dotted with wood signs that name each hole and small decorative embellishments that add personality. Everything is clean and impeccably maintained. The clubhouse is warm and welcoming, covered in golf memorabilia and decorated with a tiki theme. If we weren’t in the midst of a global pandemic, we would definitely have taken more time to hang out in there. This course is truly a gem, but is tucked away, so make sure that if you’re in the Brainerd/Nisswa area, you seek it out.
