Feels like more options to get your putt on are springing up all over in big publicly used spaces. Libraries are doing pop up putting fundraisers. Big and small museums are engaging local artists to make something mini to play. Cities have been placing courses in public parks. Airports seem to be joining in on the fun. For the past few summers, you could play at the Denver airport and now you can get in practice while traveling to, from, and through the Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport. Tucked between concourses E & D in the mezzanine area is a PGA themed space. For no fee, you can visit the pro shop and bar/cafe but for a few bucks, you can pass the time waiting for your flight on the tees and greens.
Rating
Par – Everything at the airport is expensive for better or worse because once you get through security, you’re a bit limited in your options for food and entertainment. A mediocre $10 salad or sandwich would feel egregious everywhere else but seems par for the course in while you’re waiting for your flight. While I wouldn’t arrive extra early at the airport just to play a putting green, I do appreciate the possibility of practicing my form if I’m in for an extended transit delay. Part of my generous rating also comes from the fact that I’ve had a lot of bad physical experiences flying over the years due to motion sickness and/or other pain related to air pressure and anxiety. While I love traveling to new places, a trip to the airport comes with its own unique baggage. Knowing there are additional ways to have fun and pass the time putting feels good to me despite the price tag.
