During a late summer road trip through Iowa, myself and my friend Nils had ample opportunity to take in our first course visits and games in the state. In addition to the newly opened River City Mini Golf, we had a chance to drive by and scope out Bayou Bend Mini Golf and Batting Cages in Charles City. I found this spot in a Google search and had hoped it would still be around for some putting. We arrived early in the day, before the course was open to the public, so we were only able to take photos from the exterior fence. We snapped a few other images from around the city and headed back on to the highway. From my vantage point, the 18 holes covered in green turf surrounded by traditional red bricks appeared to be in good shape. The home-y little touches including a small bridge, benches, and final hole skill shot offered enough appeal to keep this course on my radar for future trips through the state to our south. “America’s Hometown” has seen better days but I’m glad the community has a quaint and fun looking course to provide entertainment options.
