While Mr. Tee and I were in the Chicago area late this summer, we hit up an old favorite, plus a few new courses. In addition to playing City Mini Golf, we ventured into the southwest burbs of Chicagoland to experience Haunted Trails. In this industrial area, a small, Halloween themed amusement park pops up out of seemingly nowhere to offer patrons arcades, go-karts, batting cages, small rides for the kids and a spooky themed, 18-hole mini golf course.
Rating
Birdie – Haunted Trails is certainly unique in its theming. Giant ghosts, haunted houses, a Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, blood red water, skulls and tombstones surround classic mini golf game play to bring players the feeling of Halloween year-round. While the theming was spot-on, small details like clogged obstacles and game play that felt repetitive lead me to give this course a rating just short of a Hole-in-One. Haunted Trails gets a high Birdie rating and is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
