Asheboro Mini Golf – Asheboro, NC

Reviewed by Mr. Tee

Played July 8, 2023 (carpet was replaced within a year of playing the course, as seen in the video below)

During my trip to play in my first Putt-Putt tournament in North Carolina in 2023, I took the opportunity to take in as much mini golf as possible. When I was at High Point Putt-Putt, I got a tip from one of the top US putting pros and North Carolinian Greg  Newport that I should make sure to swing by Asheboro Mini Golf. Not only was it a Putt-Putt-designed course, but I was told that Asheboro Mini Golf and the Putt-Putt course in Erlanger, Kentucky, were rare Putt-Putt-style courses with wooden rails. The wood was common in the original course designs. Nowadays, the few Putt-Putt courses that exist have aluminum rails. So after playing 4 rounds at the High Point Putt-Putt in the amateur division, I was keen to take in a classic version of this dying style of courses.

Rating

From the classic sign off the road to the well-maintained classic Putt-Putt design, it’s easy to recommend Asheboro Mini Golf as a must-play if you’re in the Greensboro/High Point/Asheboro area. Course owner, David Gregor, clearly takes deep pride in this classic facility he took over some years ago. He was kind enough to show me how to play each hole and share the history of the course during my visit. They have weekly tournaments and have started hosting some larger events of late. This 18-hole course has a fantastic mix of traditional Putt-Putt holes, including a jump hole, table top loop hole, and one hole where you can shoot into the side of a slant in the hill for a hole-in-one. Someday I’d like to go back to play this course in a tournament and if you have a chance, visit and play this vintage course. See the video at the bottom of the post with junior pro champion and local Chase Ferguson and Gary from NC Family of 3 to see the even better condition the course was in after new carpet was installed in 2024.

ps. I confirmed with the owner, David, that in 2024 & 2025 that he replaced carpet on some of the holes where it was necessary, as well as put in fresh wooden rails! Love the dedication to keeping this classic course in great shape!
