Skokie Sports Park (Kid’s Quest) Mini Golf – Skokie, IL

Played July 10, 2021

Reviewed by Mr. Tee

I had already played the Traveler’s Quest 18-hole course at Skokie Sports Park with putting pal and Holey Moley champ Mick Cullen a day earlier during a summer mini golf road trip to the Chicagoland area. I was determined to get back to fully document that course with a walkthrough video, but I was equally intrigued by the adjacent 9-hole course, Kid’s Quest. I had seen it during the first visit and was quite intrigued by what I saw from afar. I’m a big fan of interactive courses and played Vitense mini golf earlier on my summer break mini golf road trip so I knew I needed to check out this short little 9-hole course.

Rating

This clever little 9-hole course feels like a perfect way to introduce young children to mini golf. When we’re out playing mini golf, we see many families with small kids finish only a handful of holes before conceding that the kids aren’t into it. This course literally brings the playground to the green with slides, tubes, and interactive elements that kids can climb on and through. The design of the holes is pretty straightforward but the added interactive pieces make for good obstacles and theming. Much like the Traveler’s Quest course, these holes could use new turf/carpet. At the time of playing the course, the ball rolled incredibly fast and unforgiving which isn’t ideal for small kids. In the end, I’m a big sucker for a course with a good slide and a unique take on the game that encourages young kids to engage.

Solid signage
Love these didactics. Who makes these again?
The smooth walls are great for bouncing the ball off of when you don’t have a straight shot
Big fan of any hole that has a tube slide
This one just had some art pieces behind plexiglass surrounding the hole
Not sure if this waterway on the hole is a good idea. Seemed to have done some damage to the turf.
Putt under and then climb through the lion’s mouth
Smart move in just repurposing playground equipment on the course as obstacles and theming
Did I climb through? Of course!
Interactive and makes for a great photo opp prop

Nerdy Notes

  • 9 holes. Par 24
  • House balls are low bounce. Balls are acquired via a token. Black urethane putters. Ball return gives chance for a free game.
  •  Prices: (Kid’s Quest/Traveler’s Quest/Play Both Courses)
    • 10 years and under $6/$7/$9
    • 11 years+ $6/$8/$10
    • Groups of 15 $6/$6/$8
  • As of summer 2022 – Open Daily During Season: 10 a.m.–9 p.m. (reservations required)
  • Numerous holes have specific and intentional notches in the walls to allow access on and off the course for wheelchairs. Believe that nearly all 9 holes are wheelchair accessible.
  • An additional 18-hole course called Traveler’s Quest is additional on site as well as a driving range, batting cages, pro shop, and vending machines.
  • Competitive Note: Both this course and Traveler’s Quest were sadly not in great condition for competitive putting and was told that the condition got worse by 2022. It all really comes down to the condition of the carpet, especially on this one which has less pipes and shoot-throughs than the larger course.
