We both tried to play the mini golf at Wild Fun Zone on several stops through the Dells including our winter visit to the area pre-pandemic in 2020 when the course was under construction. As I followed mini golf happenings during COVID, I saw that the Creative Works was remodeling the two blacklight courses in the Dells. Based on a few photos shared of the build-out, I was curious to see how the two courses played. So on the way home from Chicago in July 2021, I popped by the Wild Abyss blacklight course at the Wilderness and figured I would finally check Wild Fun Zone off my to-play list for the Dells.
Rating
After playing the blacklight course over at the nearby Wilderness resort, I had a good sense of what to expect at Wild Fun Zone. Solid and well-built holes with the same Electric Edging used for the border walls of each hole. The gameplay is nearly similar too. Flat blacklight carpeted floors that play fairly true with obstacles that remain very close to the ground. Swap out the underwater theme for an alien theme and there you go. I did appreciate that there was some ambient music pumped in to give go with the overall theme. My one small annoyance was the unnecessary tee-off mats. It’s clear where the holes start and end. They are even less valuable on the course if they are not fixed in place. It would be quite simple to just remove them. Overall, it’s a solid well-built course that won’t blow your mind but is better than most of the outdoor options in the Dells.

Pros
Unique and well-executed course build-out
Ambient music matched the outer space theme
Nice indoor option on hot summer days or during the cold winter months
Cons
Tee off mats
Relatively flat and short holes
Nerdy Notes
- 9 Holes. Par 25
- $8 / round (per their website which wasn’t fully up to date)
- Additional amenities include an arcade and laser tag
- Advertised and promoted as 3D mini golf
- Owned and operated by the Wilderness Resort
- Redesigned and built by Creative Works
- While the course is accessible in that there are entrances and exits to each hole that can be navigated easily by wheelchair, I don’t know if there was elevator access to the 2nd floor this course is located on.
