As fans of all things mini golf, we try to give everything with putting a try. Given the long winters in our home state of Minnesota, we’ve taken up miniature golf-themed board games, puzzles, app-based games, putting mats, and anything else we can get our hands on. As neither, I nor the Pink Putter are gamers, we’ve played very few console-based mini golf video games because we only have a 1980s original Nintendo Entertainment System. This all changed a few months ago when we discovered an incredible new game.
Late 2020 and early in 2021, we started hearing about this new virtual reality game called Walkabout Mini Golf. The two of us had tried out VR headsets but were never impressed enough to purchase one for our home. In fact, the few times I entered the VR world, the sometimes quick movement gave me serious motion sickness. It took the combination of encouragement of the mini golf fanatics at Dreamland in Texas and our new local friend (and impressive putter) Shawn Brown to convince us into investing in an Oculus VR headset in late Summer 2021. It was something that we thought could be fun to use over the winter months but we got hooked immediately.
The true-to-life feel and the fun environments were enough on their own but the opportunity to connect with other fellow mini golfers to play and chat live sealed the deal. Over the last 3 months, I’ve joined the official Discord channel for the game, played in tournaments, and eagerly purchased all of the new downloadable content (DLC) aka new courses as it becomes available.
Now the kind folks at Walkabout have given us an opportunity to share still screengrabs of their newest course that launches on Friday, February 17 at 1 pm CST. Sweetopia is the 3rd DLC course, 11th theme, and will raise the total number of courses on Walkabout to 22 when it is released. Previous themes include outer space, lost ancient cities, dutch windmill country, and gothic castles. For me, it feels perfect to share a candy-themed course on Valentine’s Day especially since the two of us love candy and mini golf courses that adopt a sweet theme. Enough jabbering and check out these tasty images.
Pick this up on Friday on Steam, Oculus Store, or wherever else you buy VR games. If you don’t have a VR headset and love mini golf, we recommend getting one just for this game. We play this game daily and will be devouring Sweetopia starting Friday!
