Mr. Tee and I found ourselves in the Indianapolis area in the fall of 2015 as part of our involvement with the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Artist Designed Mini Golf Course. We were there for a few days to present on mini golf design for the open call. Of course we took advantage of our spare time by visiting every mini golf course in the metro area that we could find. Our first stop was Otte Golf and Family Fun Center.
Rating:
Par – We got right off the plane, rented a car, and drove up to this charmingly suburban driving range and mini golf course on a lovely fall afternoon. The property is large and sprawling, landscaped with mature trees, a central pond and a large picnic gazebo. The game play was average and the course accoutrements have seen better days. Otte’s also offers batting cages, an executive golf course and a pro shop.
Pros:
Long putting fairways
Moderate variety of obstacles and challenges
Lovely landscaping
Cons:
Scorecard stands old and rusted
Obstacles and course a bit out of shape
Varying quality of play surfaces (some holes had thin, aging carpet while others had brand new turf)
Nerdy Notes:
- 18 holes, par 40
- No flags in holes
- Rubber-covered putters
- Kids 4-12, $6; Adults, $7; Seniors, $6 all unlimited play
- Birthday Parties available
