Tilt is an arcade and indoor black light mini golf course located on the Food Court level of the Burnsville Center Mall in Burnsville, MN. This is one of the last courses we had yet to play in the Twin-Cities metro and suburban area. A cold winter Friday prompted us to take the 30 minute drive south of the cities to check this one off the list.
Update – We found the course and arcade to be defunct and semi-dismantled during an attempted visit in February 2020. Photos of the decommissioned course below our initial review photos
Rating
Par – Tilt is your average glow golf course. It’s underwater theme was well-executed through coral reef carpeting, 3D rock formation and treasure chest obstacles and airbrushed sea creature murals covering the walls. The course also makes clever use of its interior space, combining open fenced areas that look out into the brightly lit food court with enclosed areas that utilized mirrors and lights to create the feeling of a vast underwater abyss. While we’re not exactly sure how long the course has been there, it was immaculately clean and well-maintained. It was also pretty quiet when we went, sharing the course with only one other family who managed to start after us, pass us and finish their game about ten minutes ahead of us.
Like many indoor courses, the play was extremely flat and relied on the placement of obstacles to create variety and interest. The exception to this was the final hole, where players have to putt up a shallow incline and into a treasure chest that collects the balls. Most of our strategizing involved thinking carefully about angles. Overall, Tilt provided us with a solidly good round of mini golf that lacked some of the journey, imagination and personal touches that we look for in our highest rated courses. But if you’re looking for a date place or a fun outing with the kids on a cold afternoon, go to Tilt for the mini golf AND the arcade and grab a frozen yogurt from the food court when you’re done.
